WARNING!
October 16th, 1997 Has Come And Gone!
Lift-Off date for the Jupiter 2 Celebrated in Style!

Long-anticipated by Lost in Space fans worldwide, October 16, 1997 was recently celebrated through a series of fun events. Here are some highlights:

Significance

When the series first aired in the 1960s, it was set thirty years into the future. Inevitably, that original, fictitious launch date of the Robinsons' Jupiter 2 spaceship (October 16, 1997) arrived. This date marks the moment a close-knit family, a brash young pilot, a loyal Robot and a cowardly stowaway took off on a mission that would lead them into the unknown reaches of outer space and a series of adventures many of us fondly remember. October 16, 1997 marked a wonderful opportunity to reflect on and celebrate the series' rich history, especially since the new Lost in Space feature film is just around the corner…

Highlights

The SCI-FI CHANNEL held an all-day marathon of Lost in Space episodes - including the original Lost In Space pilot, the rarely-seen unaired pilot and ten of the best episodes as chosen through an online poll taken through their web site, The Dominion.

MUSEUM OF RADIO AND TELEVISION -- both the New York and Los Angeles branches held a highly-attended day of screenings of Lost in Space episodes for the public. Additionally, the Los Angeles museum hosted a private event that evening featuring all living members of the original cast (include Robot voice Dick Tufeld and Robot "body" Bob May), a display of memorabilia, original props and the actual Robot.

AOL's THE HUB - shortly before the Museum event began, America Online fans were able to chat live with the ENTIRE cast that evening on The Hub (Keyword: Hub) - attendance in the chatroom auditorium was some of their highest ever, and their own site has been reported to have received a record 37,000 visitors that week alone, earned a "What's Hot" award from AOL, and continues going strong!
