ON OCTOBER 16-PROGRAMMING, MERCHANDISING AND EVENTS TO COMMEMORATE ORIGINAL BLAST-OFF
DATE New York, July 15, 1997 - This October, New Line Television and the Sci-Fi Channel will join forces to commemorate the original blast-off date of the Jupiter II spaceship from the classic 1960s series Lost In Space. October 16, 1997 marks the date that the Robinson family "originally" left Earth to begin their journey through space. Currently airing on the Sci-Fi Channel (weekdays 9 AM ET), the classic television series chronicled the adventures of the Space Family Robinson and the nefarious Dr. Smith aboard their spaceship, Jupiter II. New Line is currently in production on a Lost In Space feature film and will mark this anniversary with the Sci-Fi Channel through a series of events including: SCI-FI CHANNEL 'LOST IN SPACE' MARATHON - an episode marathon featuring the program's pilot and the series' first episode, The Reluctant Stowaway. CLASSIC CAST MEMBER VIGNETTES - interview segments with original castmembers June Lockhart, Jonathan Harris, Bill Mumy, Angela Cartwright, Mark Goddard and Marta Kristen will be interspersed throughout the marathon and address the phenomenon of the series, the significance of the October 16, 1997 anniversary and the passing of the torch to the new Lost In Space cast. COMMEMORATIVE MERCHANDISING PROGRAM - New Line Television and the Sci-Fi Channel will jointly market a series of limited edition items including apparel and collectibles celebrating Lost In Space and the October 16th event. LIVE SCREENING EVENT- a special screening will be held on October 16th and will include appearances by Dr. Smith (Jonathan Harris) and the original Robot, among others.
